Sorrento & Amalfi Coast from Naples
If you’re staying in Naples, or docked there on a cruise ship, the Amalfi Coast is little more than an hour’s drive away, making it the perfect day tour.
You can also travel independently direct to Sorrento either by hydrofoil or train.
Sorrento itself is the major resort town in terms of numbers of hotels and visitors and is a popular resort destination for Europeans. Many will be staying one or two weeks and seldom leave the resort.
On a day visit to Sorrento there are no blockbuster attractions. It's a pleasant town which, despite the number of European visitors, retains its Italian feel. It's ideal for a low key day in between hardcore sightseeing.
The town centre is a maze of alleyways to be explored and the waterfront (a steep hill below) has its quaint spots with fish restaurants and a laid-back feel. There are hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses around the town and peninsular.
On a day tour you can see much more. Sorrento is just a stop of a couple of hours in between visiting Pompeii or the Amalfi Coast.
On the other (southern) side of the peninsular that Sorrento stands on, is Amalfi and Positano, a much more dramatic coast where villages cling onto an almost vertical cliff face. The road along the coast is truly memorable and a highlight of any trip to the area.
Circumvesuviana trains linking Naples, Pompeii and Sorrento
Cheap and frequent trains run between Naples and Sorrento (which is the terminus). Trains are always very crowded and you may well have to stand for a good part of the journey. Pompeii is halfway between Naples and Sorrento so you could include Pompeii in your day trip to Sorrento.
Hydrofoil fast link between Naples and Sorrento
A faster link between Naples and Sorrento than the train are the Hydrofoil services direct across the Bay of Naples. Faster and more comfortable than the train but less frequent and much more expensive. In Naples the main ferry port is at Molo Beverello in the city centre, next to the cruise terminal.

Your driver will collect your hotel in Naples at the pre-arranged time and you can relax in your comfortable vehicle during the one hour drive to Sorrento.
You'll have an hour to explore Sorrento and admire the views across the Bay of Naples to Mount Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri. After leaving Sorrento you will be taken on a short drive to the pretty fishing village of Positano which nestles next to the azure blue sea and is surrounded by towering mountains.
Amalfi is the next major town along the coastline and a popular tourist destination. After a brief stop in Amalfi you'll be driven to Ravello, another historic town with plenty of architectural monuments dating back to the 5th century.
