Capri - Practical Information For First Time Visitors

Day Tour or Independent Visit?

The vast majority of visitors to Capri will be on a day trip.

Access to Capri is pretty straight forward from Naples, several companies compete with frequent services to Porto di Marina Grande on Capri. Links to the various companies web sites are on our Naples Ferry & Cruise Port page.

The ferry port at Mollo Beverello is right in the heart of the City Of Naples, some of the finest hotels in Naples are in this Naples waterfront hotel district. The ferry port is right next to the cruise port. Mollo Beverello is a few kms from Central Station the main railway station to the east of the city centre, an awkward, time consuming local bus or taxi ride.

Porto di Marina Grande on Capri has a funicular railway that takes visitors to the centre of Capri in just 5 minutes and is a fun introduction to the island. To get around Capri independently there is a small network of mini-buses.

A typical day tour to Capri is above all stress free, all the transport is organised for you and you are chaperoned the island by the guide. Both tour options have substantial free time too. Independently you need to find your way to the ferry terminal and book tickets from one of the operators and once in Capri organise your transport around the island..

If all you want to do is amble around the town in Capri, people watch and take in the atmosphere then going independently is probably the best option.
