Cheap
hotels Central Rome ?
The historic central area of Rome is not a cheap area for accommodation.
However within this context there are hotels available to suit most
budgets.
In off-season basic bed and breakfasts are available for as little
as €50, but most people must be ready to pay much more. |
 |
| The
cheap district for hotels in the centre is around Termini Station,
a good proportion of budget accommodation in Rome is here and the
area is very good for affordable restaurants and supplies at local
prices. |

Districts Of Rome
The main sights of Rome that a first time visitor wants to see are
nearly all in a relative small area in the very centre of Rome. |
 |
Hotels
Around Termini
The Termini
Station district is in many ways the benchmark to compare with when
looking for accommodation in Rome. For many visitors it is the entry
point to Rome, the main rail station and also the city centre terminus
for airport buses and trains.
Esquilino and Marsala to the north and south of the station are hub
hubs of activity focused on cheap budget hotels.
Out front the Repubblica area is more refined and spacious.
In terms of numbers and choice this is the place to come. On a peer
to peer comparison this area probably also offers the best prices
in the city centre. |
Hotels
Around Roman Forum & Colosseum
Just down the hill from Termini Station is one of the most ancient
parts of Rome. There is a very atmospheric hotel quarter here with
all grades of accommodation. The district has the feel of a medieval
city with very tight lanes and ancient monuments all around
Hotels Around Vatican City
On the other side of the river from the main city of Rome there is
a good choice of hotels along this district bordering the river. The
Metro runs parallel to the river just inland. Within sight of St Peter's
are several of the best bed
and breakfasts in Rome at extremely economical rates. The area
is for the most part more strung out than other areas, but offers
a good access to the other sights on the other side of the river.
Spanish
Steps, Trevi, Via Veneto Area
This area
is the most upmarket of the districts to stay in the centre of Rome.
Many of the flagship luxury hotels are sited here. |

Using
Rome's Public Transport System... |
Rome
is very easy to get around using its comprehensive but crowded public
transport system.
The Rome Metro
system is limited with just two lines, so Rome's
public buses form the foundation of most journeys. |
Termini Station is the main hub for public transport in the centre.
Both Metro lines cross here and out the front of the station is a
large local bus station.
Very few people pay for individual journeys on Rome's public transport
system. The locals will have long term passes, visitors will save
themselves a lot of hassle, time and money by purchasing one of the
travel passes for 1, 3 or 7 days. |

Airport
Transfers ... |
Rome
has two airports, Fiumicino and Ciampino. Ciampino is used by the
low cost budget carriers like easyJet and Ryanair and some charters.
Fiumicino is the main airport used for long haul and full service
carriers. |
