The
Open Tour HOHO (hop on hop off) city tour Bus is one of the more heavily
promoted hop on, hop off buses in Rome. Frequencies are about every
25 minutes throughout the day..
The main route followed is very similar to the main competitors, visiting
or stopping close by all of the main attractions in Central Rome.
(See template route below)
Like all such services, Open Tour runs seven days a week all year
round. Note on Sundays, road closures in Rome may affect some stopping
points. |

The
Open Tour buses are equipped with a personalised throwaway audio system
which functions in 6 different languages, providing recorded commentary
throughout the tour. There is also an English and Italian speaking
host onboard each bus to assist with any queries. You will be provided
with a set of earphones which you keep and use for the duration of
your ticket.
You have the choice of a 24 or 48 hours ticket with which to make
use of the 9 stops in the most beautiful, cultural and evocative areas
of the Eternal city.
|
| The
double decker green bus departs Termini Station every 15 to 20 minutes
giving you plenty of opportunities to explore each stop in detail.
If you were to stay on the bus for the entire loop, it would take
approximately 1.5 to 2 hours |

The
Rome Toolkit Hop On Hop Off ( HOHO) Bus Reference Route
Apart from the
Archeobus, all the rival HOHO operators operate a very similar core route
around the Rome sights. The following route is a template that we use on
this site as a reference to illustrate any differences in routing between
the operators.
Although all tours are loops where you can start at any point, nearly
all operators start at Terminus Station. When they say last tour departs
at x, they normally mean last departure from Terminus Station.
From Terminus Station buses will head south passing the Colloseum
and Roman Forum before looping around the Circus Maximos Rome to the
River Tiber, where you can walk over to Trastevere. Back up to the
other end of the Roman Forum from the Colloseum at the Piazza Venezzia.
From here the buses head straight to the Vatican crossing the River
Tiber with a stop along the way near the Piazza Navona and Pantheon.
After the Vatican the buses head over to the north of the city centre
recrossing the Tiber to the Piazza Del Popolo. Most buses will route
through the Villa Borghese, sweeping down the Via Vittorio Venetto
to Piazza Barberini for the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. From
there its back to Termini.
Clearly there are many more worthwhile places to visit than the icons mentioned
above. The typical lap will take just under 2 hours and have around 12 stops.
