The
Rome Toolkit Hop On Hop Off Bus Reference Route
Apart
from the Archeobus, all the rival operators operate a very similar
core route.
The following route is a template that we use on this site as a reference
to illustrate any differences in routing between the operators.
Although all tours are loops where you can start at any point, nearly
all operators start at Terminus Station. When they say last tour departs
at x, they normally mean last departure from Terminus Station.
From Terminus Station buses will head south passing the Colloseum
and Roman Forum before looping around the Circus Maximos Rome to the
River Tiber, where you can walk over to Trastevere. Back up to the
other end of the Roman Forum from the Colloseum at the Piazza Venezzia.
From here the buses head straight to the Vatican crossing the River
Tiber with a stop along the way near the Piazza Navona and Pantheon.
After the Vatican the buses head over to the north of the city centre
recrossing the Tiber to the Piazza Del Popolo. Most buses will route
through the Villa Borghese, sweeping down the Via Vittorio Venetto
to Piazza Barberini for the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. From
there its back to Termini.
Clearly there are many more worthwhile places to visit than the icons
mentioned above. The typical lap above will take just under 2 hours
and have around 12 stops. |

City
Sightseeing Variation of Our Rome Reference Route
Although
there are 2 lines operated by City Sightseeing, both largely superimpose
on each other with just minor variations. Essentially the circuit
is the same core as all the other competitors, (see our template tour
above)
At first glance the frequencies of every 60 and 120 minutes for the
two lines seem to compromise the hop on, hop off concept but bear
in mind at most places you will be able to get either lines buses,
or walk a very short distance to where the other line stops.
The most frequent Line, Line B that goes hourly has only 6 stops,
for the main icons most first time visitors want to see, though notably
not the Colloseum. Line B is one of the few hop on buses that doesn't
visit Termini, but about a 5 minute walk south of it.
Line A that runs every two hours has 14 stops, including Termini,
and the Colloseum. |
