The
Ciao Roma double deck city tour bus offers the standard offering made
by its competitors, (see table below). A single core route mirrored
by the other rival operators and a very similar bus with audio commentary
facilities in many languages
Ciao Roma are affiliated to Gray Line Tours. Unlike the other operators
Cia Roma doesn't start or pick up at Termini Station, instead from
their office a 5 minute walk away.

Stop
1 is thus a 5 minute walk, south from Termini on the Piazza Dell Esquilino
in front of the Ciao Roma office
Like all the other competing double deck tour buses, Ciao Roma vehicles
are equipped with an audio system providing recorded commentary throughout
the tour in many languages. English, Italian, French, Russian, Spanish,
German, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Arab and Hindi..
The ticket is valid for the day of issue, (other operators work on
24 hour periods), you can hop on or off all day at the 12 stops. There
are discounted tickets for afternoon only and no hop off options.
The Green
Line Tour also offers identical afternoon and no hop off tickets.
If you were to stay on the bus for the entire loop, it would take
approximately 2 hours. Frequency is scheduled at every 30 minutes. |
The
Rome Toolkit Hop On Hop Off ( HOHO) Bus Reference Route
Apart from the
Archeobus, all the rival HOHO operators operate a very similar core route
around the Rome sights. The following route is a template that we use on
this site as a reference to illustrate any differences in routing between
the operators.
Although all tours are loops where you can start at any point, nearly
all operators start at Terminus Station. When they say last tour departs
at x, they normally mean last departure from Terminus Station.
From Terminus Station buses will head south passing the Colloseum
and Roman Forum before looping around the Circus Maximos Rome to the
River Tiber, where you can walk over to Trastevere. Back up to the
other end of the Roman Forum from the Colloseum at the Piazza Venezzia.
From here the buses head straight to the Vatican crossing the River
Tiber with a stop along the way near the Piazza Navona and Pantheon.
After the Vatican the buses head over to the north of the city centre
recrossing the Tiber to the Piazza Del Popolo. Most buses will route
through the Villa Borghese, sweeping down the Via Vittorio Venetto
to Piazza Barberini for the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. From
there its back to Termini.
Clearly there are many more worthwhile places to visit than the icons mentioned
above. The typical lap will take just under 2 hours and have around 12 stops.
