The trip from Rome to Pompeii takes three and a half hours. Note, you'll board the shuttle for your return journey at 3:30pm, arriving back in Rome at around 7pm.

Pompeii
Pompeii was not only a flourishing port but a prosperous resort with many villas. An earthquake in AD 63 did much damage, and an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 buried Pompeii.
Under the cinders and ashes, Pompeii was preserved with magnificent completeness—down to the fresh colours of the wall paintings. The long-forgotten site of the city was rediscovered in 1748 and has been sporadically excavated since that time.

Hundreds of bodies have been discovered since excavations of the city began. They tell us a great deal about the city and it's inhabitants last moments.
Although the flesh decayed the skeletons of the victims remained trapped within the preserving layer of volcanic debris. This sarcophagus of ash also maintained an imprint of each body as it was at the time of death.
Pompeii Shuttle Logistics
Days Of Operation: Tuesday & Fridays Only (April to October).
Departure Point: Rome Termini Station. (main public transport hub in the centre of Rome)
Departure Time: 7:30am. due back at Termini Station about 7 p.m.
Inclusions: Return shuttle service from Rome to Pompeii. Transportation by air-conditioned coach or mini bus. English speaking hostess on board the shuttle. Pompeii books on board for you to read and learn about the sites.
It is not possible to stay overnight in Pompeii and return to Rome the following day as shuttle services do not run daily.
