4 star hotels In Rome are certainly not short on the ground, there are around 200 of them in the city of Rome.
There are few global chain hotels. Perhaps you wouldn't expect to wander around the windiing alleys of Ancient Rome and come across a resort hotel, and indeeed you do not. In the city centre itself the only global brand that has a presence with more than one hotel is Best Western. Chains like Holiday Inn, Novotel and Crowne Plaza have their hotels well outside the city centre.
Those global chains that do have a presence, mostly have a trophy hotel around the top of the Via Veneto by Villa Norghees, perhaps the most exclusive place to stay in the city centre. Perched up on the hil in a very affluent area, its a world away from the hustle and bustle of the ancienty city centre, just 10 minutes walk below.
It is around Termini Station that you will find the single largest concentration of 4 star hotels in Rome, and the district is very much a benchmark district for accommodation. The intense competition of 4 star hotels around Termini certainly provides value, if not the elegance and sophistication of the Via Veneto. As Termini Station is the city centres local transport hub, (the two metro lines intersect and the main bus station is here), it also means very good connections with all the sights.

Its worth remembering that the star system only refelcts the services provided by a hotel, not how comfortable, or how attentive the service although a higher price of course should enable a higher standard of service. If you do not require restauarnts, room service, spa treatments and such like you might want to look at a comfortable 3 star hotel in Rome.
