The exception is the InterContinental De La Ville Roma, right on the edge of the old medieval centre of Rome adjacent to the Spanish Steps. If money is no object this is indeed a splendid option for your visit to Rome.

The only other Holiday Inn site suitable for independent travellers to Rome is the Express Holiday Inn San Giovanni. This is situated a little to the south of the city centre but unlike the other Holiday Inn's has excellent public transport that will have you in the centre in 15 minutes or less, including a Metro station.

Of the rest of the Holiday Inn's all but the Crowne Plaza St Peter's are close by Rome's orbital motorway. If you have a car these are worth considering, offering good quality accommodation at a much lower cost than the city centre, driving to a local station/metro for the commute to the sights.
Some of the Holiday Inn's have shuttle buses that go to the city centre.
The Crowne Plaza St Peter's is a couple of miles west of the Vatican in a residential area with limited public transport. If you're comfortable with a taxi for your trips to the city this may work also.

Well to the west of the city centre on one of the main roads out of Rome. Free courtesy shuttle bus (leaves at prefixed schedules) between hotel and city centre. Private car park with security.

Despite the name, around 2 miles west of St Peter's away from the city in a residential area. Free car parking.
